Funeral services for Verlene Hobratschk will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Waldeck Lutheran Church in Waldeck with interment to follow at the Waldeck Cemetery. A visitation will be held at 9:00 AM prior to the services at Waldeck Lutheran Church. The family will be present during that time.
Verlene Hobratsck, 84, passed away on June 29, 2024 in Austin, Texas. She was born in Waldeck on June 21, 1940 to Elton and Leonie (Weishuhn) Wolff. She attended first and second grade at Plum School, she graduated from Round Top High School in 1958 and from Central Texas School of Cosmetology in 1959. Verlene was baptized, confirmed and married all at Waldeck Lutheran Church.
She married Wallace Hobratschk on January 21, 1961 at the Waldeck Lutheran Church by Rev. A.M. Hannemann. They had two children, Rodney and Robin. Verlene was employed at Allene’s Beauty Salon until her son, Rodney was born. She was a proud full-time mother until her daughter, Robin was in kindergarten. She then worked for over 25 years in the accounting division of the Texas State Employees Retirement System in the Capitol Complex in Austin. She retired in June 1995.
Verlene was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange. She was honored with the Humanitarian of the Year 2004 by the Order of the Sons of Hermann Life and was declared an outstanding senior citizen. Verlene enjoyed crafting and was very artistic. She was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother and she will be dearly missed by family and friends. Verlene chose the quote, “Your presence we’ll miss, your memory we treasure, loving you always, forgetting you never” (unknown author).
Verlene is survived by her children; Rodney Hobratschk (Robin) of Northlake and Robin Steffek (Michael) of Bertram; brother, Laniel Wolff (Sharon); sister, Mary Ann Hofferek; brother and sister-in-law, Butch and Genelda Pavlik; grandchildren, Michael Hobratschk (Samantha), Ian Hobratschk, Ricky Gonzales. Jr. (Kim), Ashley Gonzales, Taylor Gonzales and Micaela Steffek; and two grandchildren, Audrey and Evie Gonzales, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace Hobratschk; sister and brother-in-law, Mamie Richter (Charles); brother-in-law, Robert Hofferek; and brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Audrey Symmank.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of La Grange or Waldeck Lutheran Church in Waldeck.
