Funeral services for Theo Svec are scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 27 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Rosary will be at 5 p.m.

Theo, 84 of La Grange, passed away on June 23, 2024. He was born in La Grange on September 26, 1939 to Ivan J. Svec and Johanna (Lidiak) Svec. He married the love of his life, Gladys (Heintschel) Svec on September 11, 1960 in Hostyn. They later had two children, Susan and Steven.

Theo and wife, Gladys resided in La Grange, now have a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Theo was in the U.S. Army Reserves for 8 years. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn where he served as Lector and Trustee; Honorary member of the Knight of Columbus #2574 in La Grange where he served as Group #1 Chairman, past officer for many years, and worked at many KC fundraisers; Member of Community Center, Inc. where he served as the first secretary and treasurer for several years. 

Theo also worked for the MS-150 Bike-A-Thon since it started along with the K of C and the Fayette County Fair Association, and he served as treasurer for 42 years for KJT Society #3 in Hostyn. He was also active in Join Hands and Flag Day, Fayette County Farm Bureau in La Grange, Roustabout Club, Sons of Hermann Plum Lodge, La Grange Noon Lions (40 years), Fayette County Junior Livestock Show Association for over 50 years and worked several years at Precinct 1-W Fayette County in several election positions at State, County and National elections. 

Theo retired after 42 years as Senior Vice President for La Grange State Bank. He was a member of the Fayette County Fair Association for over 50 years, served as Parade Marshall in 1994 and was honored as a Lifetime Honorary Member in 2010. Theo was known for his delicious stew, and he enjoyed cooking for his work parties and was involved in entertainment acts at the local schools. Theo was a wonderful husband, brother, father and grandfather. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

Theo is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys; son, Steven Svec (Bernice) and daughter, Susan Mueller (Tommy) all of La Grange; brothers, Henry Svec (Maria) and Thomas Svec (Marilyn); sister-in-law, Bobbie Svec; grandchildren, Dr. Brendan Mueller (Dr. Julia Mueller), Alyson Svec, Ariel Svec and Aric Svec; great grandchildren, Aiden Juarez and Mathew Mueller; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ivan N. Svec, John Svec and Bill Svec; sisters-in-law, Marie Svec, Gracie Svec, Shirley Svec; and one grandson, Aaron Michael Svec. 

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Building Fund.
