Ruth Margaret Hausler Manuel died peacefully on July 1, 2010 at St. Mark’s Medical Center. She was born to Lee Alfred Hausler and Elizabeth Frances (Pastusek) Hausler on September 8, 1924 in Elgin. Texas. She lived in Elgin and then Giddings until she was eleven years old. Her family then moved to La Grange and resided on North Monroe Street. Ruth graduated from La Grange High School in 1942. Following graduation she worked for the late Dr. J. C. Guenther as an x-ray technician and then during World War II worked for a geo-physical company in Houston. She continued her career in the medical field as a medical assistant to the late Dr. James T. Makinson.
Ruth was known for her many talents, especially her exceptional cooking and baking skills. Her creativity in sewing and quilting was a work of art. She took pride in hand piecing and hand quilting the numerous quilts she made for her grandchildren, other family members, friends and acquaintances. Ruth began oil painting during her retirement years, taking lessons to hone her skills. Again, she shared her beautiful and expressive artistic expressions with family and friends.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, the Rutersville Extension Homemakers Club, and the Fayette County Republican Party. She married Martin Manuel, Jr. on November 17, 1956, celebrating 50 years of marriage in 2006. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law.
Survivors include her son, Cliff Giese, and wife Pam of La Grange; daughter, Linda Oltmann, and husband Callan of West Point; sisters, Helen Melcher of Lago Vista and Elizabeth Higgins of Baytown; sister-in-law, Jo Frances Manuel of Beaumont; brother-in-law, Laurance Manuel and wife, Guiliana of Lake Charles, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Melanie Oltmann of Manhattan Beach, CA; Meredith Oltmann of Austin; Marian Taylor and husband, Jed of Austin; and Matthew Giese and wife, Kelly of Dallas; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, July 4, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Services will be on Monday, July 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange with interment following in the La Grange City Cemetery.
