Patrick Henry Kalina, Sr., age 71, passed away on April 8, 2023 in Austin, Texas. A Rosary will be led at 10:30 AM on April 13, 2023 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange with a Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11:00 AM, interment following at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Plum. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM at the Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange with the family present from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Patrick was born on March 28, 1952 in Shiner to Jim August and Angelina (Cerny) Kalina. He married Elfriede Albina Konvicka on September 23, 1972 and later had three sons that they raised in La Grange.
Patrick was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus. Every morning when he woke up, he would sit on his porch and pray before going to work at the tire shop where he worked for over 50 years. After retirement, you would see him sitting at Ken’s Barbershop with his best friends Ken Jurecka and Tom Kristof. Patrick enjoyed gardening, fishing, his Budweiser beer and his dogs Bandit, Moo and Peanut. Patrick loved his family and always put everyone else first. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elfriede Albina Kalina; sons, Patrick Kalina, Jr. and wife Tamara, Jason Kalina and wife Susan, and Kevin Kalina all of La Grange; grandchildren Hannah Ahrens (Ty) of Weimar, Taylor Kalina (fiancé Jordan) of College Station, Hope Kalina and Jacob Kalina of La Grange; step grandson Branson Kalkomey of Needville; great-grandchildren Knoxx Ahrens, Elly Jo Ahrens, and Bentley Bryan; brothers, Jerome Kalina (Doris) of Praha and Marvin Kalina (Marsha) of Weir; sisters Henrietta Moeller (Elton) of Praha and Mildred Hrachovy of Schulenburg; sister-in-laws Barbara Kalina and Lorene Kalina; in-laws Louis Konvicka (Margie), Edwin Konvicka, Elizabeth Votaw (Leslie), Shirley Michna, Kathy Pavlik, Irene Drews (Richard), and Willie Konvicka; sister-in-laws Mary Spears and Rose Debner; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Angelina Kalina; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Elfriede Baca and Louis Konvicka; granddaughter Sierra Kalina; brothers Claude Kalina and BJ Kalina; brother-in-laws Frank Konvicka (wife Lillie Mae), Leo Pavlik, Melvin Michna, Carlton Spears and Ted Debner, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Masses or to the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange.
