Oscar Lee “Cookie” Cook, 92 of La Grange went peacefully to sleep at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Weimar, Texas on January 25, 2017.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange, Texas with Pastor Candis O’Meara officiating. The service will be at 11:00 am with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
Oscar was born March 9, 1924 in Moulton, Texas to Christian and Annie (Boehm) Cook. He joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served until 1946. After his service to our country he moved to La Grange and on October 31, 1948 was married to Lucille (Kleiber) Cook. He worked for the United State Postal Service and in 1973 was promoted to Post Master of the La Grange, Texas Post Office. He retired from the Postal Service in 1981 after 33 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf but was unstoppable at playing domino. Oscar was a member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge, and retired member of La Grange Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his son Clayton and Gail Cook of La Grange, a daughter Donna and Gerry Starnes of Austin, granddaughters Kimberly Cook and Eric Newby of Houston, Valerie and Garrett Hinze of Round Top, grandsons Philip Starnes and David and Jeanette Starnes of Austin, Great-granddaughter Ruth Sawyer Newby of Houston and Great-grandson Jeremy Starnes of Austin.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille, eight sisters and two brothers, and special friend Gladys Eloff.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment Fund and Brazos Valley Hospice.
Fayette Memorial Funeral Home of La Grange, Texas is in charge of cremation and service.
