Nelda Dippel Goehring, of Round Top, passed away at Care Inn in La Grange, Texas on March 14, 2010, at the age of 93. She was born on May 22, 1916 to Emil and Emma Dippel near Round Top. She was baptized December 26, 1917 and was confirmed April 30, 1930, by Reverend Carl Baer at Waldeck. Nelda and Lorenz Goehring were married on January 1, 1942 by Pastor Julius Bosshardt.
She lived in the Rock Hill area near Round Top and worked side by side with her husband on the farm for most of her life. She worked at Franklin Nursery in La Grange for eleven years before her retirement. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top, WELCA, Rebeccah Circle, Sons of Hermann, and the Farm Bureau.
Nelda enjoyed spending time in her garden and yard. This is where she was when the weather permitted. She enjoyed seeing things grow and always filled her pantry and freezer with her harvest. She also loved cooking meals for the family and no weekend ever passed without baking a cake, pie, or cookies and wanting someone to come eat it with her. Nelda spent bad weather days and the winter season quilting. She would not miss a quilting-gathering at the church with her friends and provided her family with plenty of quilts. She also spent many hours cross-stitching and puzzling.
Survivors include her son, Ronald and wife Carol Goehring of Round Top; threegrandchildren and spouses; Blake and Christie Goehring of Round Top, Stacy and Clint Eilers of Shelby, and Clay and Jamie Goehring of Round Top; seven great-grandchildren; Ryker and Kannyn Goehring, Kate, Jill and Tess Eilers and Ainsley and Adler Goehring; sisters-in-law Irene Noak, Nola Goehring and Charlotte Hefenstive, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenz Goehring, parents Emil and Emma Dippel; sisters Esther Michael and Velna Dippel; brother Denton Dippel; five brothers-in-law Elmo, William and Leroy Goehring, Rudolph Michael and Nelson Noak.
Granny's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Her great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday March 17, 2010 from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM, at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. The family will receive visiitors from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday March 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. Burial will follow at Florida Chapel Cemetery, near Round Top.
