Maxine Granger Daniels

Maxine Elizabeth Granger Daniels, RN, passed away quietly on August 19, 2011, at the Hallmark in Houston, after a short illness. She graduated from Cleveland St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in September, 1941. Just after graduation, she married the love of her life, George Daniels, whom she had met when she was his nurse. During the war, she worked as an industrial nurse in an ordnance plant.

On her 40th birthday, Maxine started to college, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1965 from the University of Houston.

When she was young, Maxine dreamed of visiting places all over the world. She and George were fortunate to be able to visit many of them over the years. She always valued people and experiences over possessions.

Maxine lived for the last 30 years in the Hallmark retirement community where she developed many close friendships. To the Hallmark staff she was affectionately known as “Momma D.” She also spent time in her country home in La Grange.

Maxine was pre-deceased by her parents, brother Teddy, and her beloved husband of 57 years, George A. Daniels.

Maxine is survived by her sister Dorothy Leuser of Kingman, AZ; her daughter Patricia Daniels, of Stevinson, CA; her son Neil Daniels and his wife Peggy, of Houston; son Howard Daniels, of El Paso; son Roger Daniels and his wife Carol, of La Grange; grandson Mark Daniels and his wife Mary and their daughters Jennifer and Cyndi; granddaughter Kim Derry and her husband Toby, and their children Meagan and Mitchell, and granddaughter Tiffany Daniels.

A memorial service will be held at the Hallmark, 4718 Hallmark Dr. Houston, TX, on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 2 PM
