MARIE NELIUS

Marie Nelius, 65, of Round Top passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 in a Houston hospital.

Marie was born September, 18, 1951 to Evelyn Ellie Schulze Wolle and Oliver Wolle. She graduated from Round Top-Carmine High School and was one of the first women  to attend college on an athletic scholarship. She attended Temple Jr. College and graduated from Parsons College in Oskaloosa, Iowa. During college she was invited to participate in the U.S. Olympic trials.

She married Lloyd Nelius on July 5, 1977 in Round Top. She began her 34 year teaching career in Poteet, and taught and coached in Baytown, La Grange, Giddings, and Burton. She coached Basketball, Track, and Cross Country.

Marie loved gardening, traveling, fishing, beachcombing and spending time with her grandkids. She loved keeping in touch and encouraging former students, and players.

Marie is survived by her husband, Lloyd Nelius of Round Top. 1 son and daughter-in-law: Travis Lloyd and  AshleyElizabeth Nelius of Round Top, 3 daughters and sons-in-law:Tiffany and Mark Beinlich of Kemah, Tx, Nicole and Dean McAllister of Giddings, and Misty Marie and Adam Archibeque of Corpus Christi. 2 brothers James Wolle of Norfolk, Va., and Wayne and Laura Wolle of Marion, Tx, and 14, grandchildren, Brittany Diane, Ashley Nicole, and Courtney Lynn Beinlich. Cameron Paul and Matthew Peyton Mitschke, Ashtyn Dean McAllister, Taylor Ashley, Avery Tate, Morgan May and Cayden Blair Nelius, Daniel Wyatt, Evelyn Marie, Waylon Thomas, and Ellie Dawn Archibeque.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top with interment to follow at Hills Cemetery near Round Top.

Family suggests memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top or a fund is set up to benefit Round Top-Carmine ISD athletics at Carmine State Bank or the school.
