Lillie Burnside

Lillie Mae Slavik Burnside, 76 passed away at her home in La Grange, Texas on Monday September 18, 2017.

She was born in Fayetteville, Texas on December 14, 1940, the daughter of Jerry and Lillie Stolar Slavik.  She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1959 and married Paul L. Burnside, Jr. in Fayetteville, Texas on September 22, 1963.  She was a longtime resident of Houston and retired from Curtin Matheson Scientific after 37 years of service.  Lillie and Paul moved back to Fayette County following retirement in 2000.

Lillie was a trailrider, great dancer and never met an animal she did not like.  She enjoyed antiquing, loved to cook and working with her flowers in her garden.  She was a member of the Shelby American Legion Auxiliary, Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, Sierra Club. Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum and the Friends of the La Grange Depot.

Lillie is survived by her husband Paul, brothers-in-law Wayne Burnside and wife Libby of Dallas, Robert S. Burnside of Whitesboro and sister-in-law Amanda Manchee of Houston; as well as numerous other family members.  She is also survived by two special friends Big Boy and Smokie.

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents Jerry and Lillie Slavik and  three uncles, Louis Stolar, Calvin Stolar, and Edmund “Monk” Stolar.

The family would like to thank Dr. William B. Fleming, Dr. Wess Blackwell, Gloria Ellis, Nakisha Brown, Tashina Porter, Felisha Smith, Regina Gilmon and Barbara Clay for the loving care and support they offered to Lillie Mae during her extended illness.

Fayette Memorial Funeral Home of La Grange is in charge of all arrangements.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday September 21, 2017.  The family will receive visitors from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.  The funeral service is scheduled for Friday September 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM also from Fayette Memorial Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at the Fayetteville City Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda Lane, La Grange, Texas 78945.
