James Floyd Smith
James Floyd Smith, 87, of La Grange, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015, peacefully in his home.
James was born January 14, 1928 in Garrison, Texas to Charles Floyd and Alma Cryer Smith. James held a Master’s degree from the University of Houston and served his country in the United States Army. James was a teacher and a counselor at Jackson Jr. High School in Houston, Texas.
James was very active in the La Grange Church of Christ where he was a member as well as keeping the books for the church. He was also a member of the Texas Retired Teacher’s Association. James loved gardening and plants.
James is survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law: Bobbie Klingsporn of La Grange and Mary Juanita Williams and her husband, W.T. of Garrison, Texas.
5 nieces: Mary May of Ft. Worth, Denise Jamar of Garrison, Judy Roosevelt of Katy, Sandra Sanchez of LaPorte, and Cathy Dean of Houston. James was also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother; William G. Smith, and 1 nephew; Ronald Smith.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 8th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m at the La Grange Church of Christ with Scott Elliott, officiating. An interment service will be held Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Holly Springs Cemetery near Garrison, Texas.

Services are under the care and direction of Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange.
