Jackie Ernst Finke 58 of Round Top passed away at his home on Wednesday morning, September 1, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.
Jackie was born September 26, 1951 the son of John and Myrtle Finke. Jack went to college and received a teaching degree but it only took him one semester to realize that teaching was not his calling. Jack had a love for being outdoors working as a stonemason. Jack never followed a blueprint for his work but let his creative style and talents tell the end results. He enjoyed many years as a stonemason in the area, creating stone projects based on the motto “Why dream the ordinary?”
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Margaret Finke; son Benjamin Finke of Round Top; two daughters, Heidi and husband Jason Blank of Waltham MA, and Sarah and husband Hoon Park of Austin TX; brother John Finke and wife Ida Laura of Houston; sister Nancy Althaus of Round Top; brother Jimmie Finke of Round Top; four grandchildren, Brooke and Brian Finke; and Connor and Max Blank.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carl and Myrtle (Graf) Finke.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday September 2, 2010 from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday September 3, 2010 at 10:00 AM, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville. Interment will follow at Hill Cemetery near Round Top.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Hospice Brazos Valley or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville.
