Henry Herman Frers, age 98, of La Grange passed away on January 8, 2009 at Care Inn Nursing Center. He was born in the Prairie Valley Community on November 9, 1910 to German immigrants, John and Mary (Werner) Frers. Early in his childhood, the family relocated to the Weimar area known as Wildwood. He attended the Wildwood school in his earliest years. At the age of 9, the family returned to the Prarie Valley area and he spent the remainder of his school years completing the seventh grade at the Prairie Valley School. He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie Valley. In April 2005, he was recognized for his 75 year membership in the Hermann Sons where he was a member of the Plum Lodge #238.
On December 25, 1939 he was united in marriage with Annie Wessels. They lived in West Point their entire married lives. Annie preceded him in death on October 13, 1980 after which time he moved to La Grange to live with his daughter, Audrey Huenefeld and her family. When his health began to decline in 2002 he entered Care Inn.
He is survived by his daughter, Audrey Huenefeld and her husband Bobby; one granddaughter, Margaret Roscher and her husband Glen; two grandsons, Robert Huenefeld and his wife Cindy and John Huenefeld and his wife Tina all of La Grange. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Abigail, Colton, and Tyson Roscher and Lauren and Layne Huenefeld and one niece, Ann Morris and her husband Randal of Plum.
Visitation is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening. The funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie Valley. Pastor J.R. Westerfield and Pastor Herb Beyer will officiate at the service. Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Prairie Valley.
