Gus Royce Steinmann Sr., 94, passed away on February 6, 2020, in Houston, Texas.
Gus "Scotty" Steinmann was born in Schulenburg, Texas to Gus and Pearl Steinmann on August 25, 1925. Gus married Lucy Carolyn Stokes on Valentine's Day in 1953. They were married for 63 years until her death in 2016.
Gus worked for many years in the hotel business and served in the armed forces. In his free time, Gus enjoyed deer hunting. He hunted for years with his sons, grandchildren, and many friends until his health would no longer allow. Gus read the paper every day. That was one thing the kids (and grandkids) knew to not mess with. He enjoyed sharing his insights on health and nutrition with anyone who would listen. You would often hear him say "Eat your veggies," "I have an article you need to read," or "It’s just a suggestion..." no matter what problem you presented to him.
Gus is preceded in death by his oldest son, Gus R Steinmann II, and his wife Carolyn. He is survived by his son Timothy C Steinmann and wife Geri, daughter Cindy Sue Balsley and husband Kirk, daughter Lisa Ann Carpenter, 8 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren. Gus is reunited with his wife, his son Gus Jr. and many others.
Funeral services are scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at the United Evangelical Swiss Alp Lutheran Church in Swill Alp, Texas with internment to follow in the United Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Schulenburg, Texas. Family suggests memorials to the YMCA of Greater Houston, P.O. Box 3007 Houston, Texas 77253 or the Texas Wildlife Association, 3660 Thousand Oaks Dr. # 126 San Antonio, Texas 78247.
