Services for Gerald Wayne Sledge, 87, of Warda are set for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, Texas, with Pastor Dustin Beck officiating. Interment will follow on Friday April 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Montague Perpetual care Cemetery in Montague, Texas. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange, with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. Mr. Sledge passed away March 26, 2022 at his home in Warda.
Gerald was born April 14, 1934 to Bert Sledge and Alice Odessa (Parks) Sledge in New Harp, Texas. He married Mary Carolyn Wolfe on March 9, 1956 in Nocona, Texas.
Gerald was a Member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda. He was very much loved by all his family and was a wonderful mentor to his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life.
Gerald loved to golf, fish and camping with his large extended family at Nocona Lake was his favorite idea of a fun vacation. During the years that the family lived in the Panhandle he happily served on the Hereford Volunteer Fire Department for sixteen plus years. Gerald was employed at Wolfe Oil Field Service in Warda, TX for 25 years.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Bert & Odessa Sledge; brother, John Barrett Sledge; father-in-law, Buster Wolfe; mother-in-law, Sis Wolfe; brothers & sisters-in-law, Arnold & Pauline Wolfe and Glyn & Jo Ann Gaines.
He is survived and remembered by his loving wife, Mary (Wolfe) Sledge of Warda; son and daughter-in-law, David Wayne and Susan Sledge of Amarillo; daughters and sons-in-law, Leesa Kay and Ennis Penland of Amarillo, Jana Lee and Chris Tindle of Midlothian; brothers, Larry Sledge and Kimberly of Montague, Gary and Jackie of Abilene, sister, Mary Nell Morgan of McKinney; sister-in-law, Nancy Sledge Ritchie and Chris Parker of Nocona; grandchildren, Tyler and Stephanie Sledge, Eric and McKenna Sledge, Logan and Katie Evers, Kaylee Evers and Josh Green, Terri Penland, Christi and Joe Pointer, and Kelly and Beth Penland; great grandchildren, Scarlett Sledge, Damon Sledge and Baby Sledge (due in August), Addie Evers, Emma Evers; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family, friends, and loved ones.
Acting as pallbearers will be Tyler Sledge, Eric Sledge, Logan Evers, Jared Wolfe, Casey Sledge, Duston Wolfe, Ben Sledge, and Kyle Pospisil. Employees and former employees of Wolfe Oilfield Service will be Honorary Pallbearers
The family suggests Memorial contributions be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Warda or Hospice Brazos Valley.
