Edna Mae Sauer Koopmann, age 88, passed away on September 5, 2008 at St. Mark’s Medical Center after a brief illness. Edna was born on January 15, 1920 to Fritz Sauer and Mary (Ehler) Sauer in Swiss Alp. On December 16, 1937 she married Vastine Koopmann. She was a homemaker and cared for her grandchildren when they were younger. Edna loved to cook and sew and make homemade bread, which she kneaded by hand.
Survivors include one grandson, Damon Koopmann and his wife Amy of Forney, Texas; one granddaughter, Dawn Biar and one great-granddaughter, Cathy Alvis of Thorndale; one sister, Lorene Herrington of Houston; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Raymond and Charleen Koopmann of West Point; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Koopmann Gray and her husband Steve; many special nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Willie Sauer and Freddie Sauer; her husband, former Fayette County Sheriff, Vastine Koopmann; a daughter, Jo Lee Jesse and a son, Darrell Koopmann.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange. Reverend Sid Roden will officiate at the service. Internment will be in the La Grange City Cemetery.
