Edmund Carl Tieken

A Celebration of Life for Carl (Candyman) Tieken will be held on June 29 th beginning at 11:00 am at St.

Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville, visitation with the family beginning at 10:00 am.

Carl Tieken, 81 of Hallettsville, went to be with the Lord on June 14 th , 2024, with his wife Jo, daughter

Ashley, and special friend Bill by his side. He was born August 23,1942 in San Antonio, Tx to Edmond

John Tieken and Verna Mae (Kutcher) Tieken. After serving 4 years in the US Coast Guard, he was

employed by Baker’s, Bert’s and Chandler shoe store where he was a shoe salesman. He was offered a

transfer to the Houston area and moved to Alief. He later was employed as a salesman for RJR Nabisco

(now Kraft Food) for LifeSavers Candy. He loved the “country life” so he moved to Bellville to start his

first ranch and Tieken Charolais. After retiring from Kraft, he moved to Altair, where he met and

married his wife Jo Beth (Metz) Tieken of Columbus. They were married at St. Peter in Hallettsville July

26, 1986.

Carl was a registered Charolais breeder and rancher for over 50 years along with owning his trucking

company, TNT Trucking. He was an active member in his church and was the President of the Solid Rock

Christian Learning Center until recently stepping down to Vice President due to health reasons. He

loved his staff at Solid Rock, and he loved seeing the children light up when he would come to visit.

They were excited to see Mr. T. He found such joy showing his cattle in open shows and beside

Ashley’s side while she showed her cattle in the Jr. Shows. He would take pride watching Toby cheer

and twirl at the games at Columbus High. Carl was the #1 fan watching CoCo pitch on her select softball

team. He would drive the team all over the US to play. He followed Brannen through High School football

as well as College games at Trinity as well as Chandler’s Hallettsville football games and Midland games.

In the words of his daughter, Carl lived a long, amazing, fulfilling life. He never met a stranger and

touched the lives of so many. Carl will be dearly missed by those who were blessed enough to know him.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jo; daughter, Ashley Nicole (Tieken) Lane and husband Lambert

Miles Lane of Missouri City and Toby Jean (Beck) Leal of Corpus; brother Curtis Tieken and wife Gay of

Garland; grandchildren Larissa Nicole Leal, Leonardo Leal, and Luke Hunter Lane; special dear friends Bill

and Cindy Caraway and their children Brannen, CoCo, and Chandler. Pat and Christy Steffek, and

Clayton and Stephanie Muehr; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Carl is preceded in death by

his parents, sister Helen Faye Schaper and brother Kermit Tieken.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Solid Rock Christian Learning Center. He

was dedicated to help to bring Christian values and God into the lives of as many children he could.
