The angels of the Lord came and took Delbert Garlin home on Sunday, March 15, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Delbert was born on November 4, 1940 in Burton, Texas to the late Robert and Vesta (Fuchs) Garlin. He attended Burton Schools. After graduation from high school he attended Sam Houston State in Huntsville where he earned a degree.
Delbert Bartel Garlin was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville. He also served his country by being a member of the U.S. National Guard.
Delbert enjoyed vacationing with his wife and family, spending time with his grandchildren, hunting and building.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Waldine (Weyand) Garlin of Houston; one son, Dwayne Garlin and his wife Theresa of Ledbetter; one daughter, Wendy Flinn and her husband Jeff of Burton; one brother, Barton Garlin and his wife Lila of Houston; mother-in-law, Nelda Weyand of La Grange; brother-in-law, ElGene Weyand and his wife Darlene of Rutersville; sister-in-law, Darlene Etzel and her husband Berrie of Shelby; one granddaughter, Kennedy Flinn of Burton; three grandsons, Hayden and Cole Garlin of Ledbetter and Carson Flinn of Burton along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Delbert Bartel Garlin was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Vesta (Fuchs) Garlin and his father-in-law Ollie Weyand.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville. Reverend Glenn Hohlt will perform the service.
Interment will be in the Florida Chapel Cemetery near Round Top, Texas.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville or the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
