Cordell Levien age 91 of Round Top passed away on July 1, 2024, at Care Inn of La Grange.
He was born March 24, 1933, in Round Top to Alfred and Adele (Ander) Levien. Cordell retired from Alcoa in Rockdale where he was a supervisor and consultant. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top.
Baptized September 3, 1933; Confirmed March 30, 1947; Married Nina Faye (Meiners) Levien February 10, 1958, and Corine (Schulle Etzel) Levien January 8, 1994.
Cordell worked at Alcoa in Rockdale for 30+ years; his hard work and attention to detail allowed him to rise to supervisor and then consultant, traveling to other locations to help with converting the equipment to a more efficient system.
But his real passion was farming the land on which he was born. Before he was an aluminum smelter, he was a peanut farmer. Over the years he became known for his speckled butter beans – growing from seed he saved for over 70 years. His first wife Nina encouraged growing roses and establishing a beautiful flower garden. After he retired it was with his second wife Corine that he grew more and more beautiful flowers – to the point that people driving by would often stop to ask about his poppies and toad flax and ranunculus. Together they grew gourds that he dried to make purple martin houses and Corine painted to create unique works of art.
In addition to helping plan the Fayette County Fair each year, he was in charge of making delicious stew for the senior citizens. He was the senior herb grower for the local chapter of the Herb Society and a charter member of the coffee club at the Round Top Farm and Ranch Supply. He very much enjoyed hunting, trapping, watching sports, traveling, playing Skat, and discussing the history of the Round Top area.
Cordell was preceded in death by his wives Nina Faye (Meiners) Levien in 1991 and Corine (Schulle Etzel) Levien in 2011; and by his grandson Eric Levien in 2011.
Cordell is survived by his children Linda McCall and husband David of Waldeck, Susan Corgiat and husband Mike of Bryan, Mark Levien of Lexington, and Bridget Levien of Austin; step-children Cheri Herbrich and husband Billy of LaGrange, Sandi Pennington and husband Joe of Georgetown; grandchild Emily Brewer and husband Anthony of San Angelo; step grandchildren Jonathon Herbrich of Hobbs, New Mexico, Rebecca Herbrich of LaGrange, Amy Hays and husband Ben of Georgetown, Travis Pennington and wife Kayla of Jarrell; and seven awesome great granddaughters.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Services are entrusted to Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. Please visit www.fayettememorialfuneralhome.com to share memories and leave your condolences.
