Clarence R. Matula, 81, a long-time resident of La Grange, died Feb. 15, 2012 in St. Mark’s Medical Center.
He was born in Granger, Nov. 17, 1930, the son of Rudolph and Lillian (Cervenka) Matula. He attended college and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1952 with a B.S. in Agriculture.
He was best known locally for helping to start the Fayette Water Supply Corporation through his employer, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration. He facilitated government loans for this purpose. After his retirement from the agency in 1981, he later worked for a bank in Weimar and for the U.S. Census Bureau in 1990 and 2000.
Clarence is survived by his sons, Darrell of League City, David of Houston; sister Alice Hajda of Granger; sister-in-laws, Alice Sides and husband Bobby of Buda, and Adell McCoy of Conroe Texas, along with several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, and his daughter, Nancy. Brother, Major Raymond Matula U.S.A.F.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday February 17, 2012 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 18, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange.
Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Hostyn.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church Building Fund.
