Bobby Joe Huenefeld age 73, passed away on March 26, 2014 in Giddings.
Bobby was born in Waller on May 18, 1940 to Edwin and Margaret Mansell Huenefeld. His mother, Margaret, passed away when he was only three years of age and was raised by his father and aunts. He lived his childhood years in Waller. He attended Waller Public Schools graduating there in 1959. He attended Sam Houston State College and later transferred to Blinn College in Brenham where he received an Associate in Arts degree. He went on to attend Southwest Texas State University and received his Bachelor of Science degree. He later attended Prairie View University and received his Master of Education degree. He taught at La Grange Junior High and Flatonia High Schools after which he changed careers and became an accountant with Combined Community Action and later at Fayette Electric Cooperative.
Throughout his life, he was always interested in bookkeeping and served as the treasurer of St. Peter Lutheran Church at Prairie Valley, the Southern District of the American Lutheran Church and the Fayette County Fair Association. While serving on the Fair Board, he took great pleasure in taking the Fair Float to many parades in the surrounding area. In his 17 years as a Fair Director, he took the float to over 400 parades. He was a life member of Texas State Teachers’ Association and a long time member of the Hermann Sons Lodge.
He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waller. On August 24, 1963, he was united in marriage with Audrey Frers of West Point at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie Valley where he maintained his membership for over fifty years. He was an active member of all activities of the church and served on the church council several times.
He is survived by his wife Audrey of La Grange and three children and their spouses; Margaret Roscher and her husband Glen, Robert Huenefeld and his wife Cindy; and John Huenefeld and his wife Tina, all of La Grange. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Joshua, Abigail, Colton, and Tyson Roscher; and Lauren, Layne and Erin Huenefeld. In addition, he is also survived by two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shirley Huenefeld Balusek and Linda Huenefeld Stanford and his brother Lester Huenefeld.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday March 28, 2014 from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday March 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie Valley.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
