Bernice Katherine (Koehl) Gaertner of La Grange died September 9, 2014 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in La Grange.
Bernice was born on September 5, 1925 in La Grange, Texas to Lee Koehl and Mary Stanzel Koehl. She married Glenton Gaertner on November 12, 1941 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger. She worked with her husband on their dairy farm and later worked at Fayette Memorial Hospital, Fayette Medical Supply, and Faske Electric Lighting Supply. She enjoyed playing bingo, dominoes, cooking and baking, trips to Louisiana, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society.
Bernice is survived by two sons, Glenn Gaertner and wife, Beverly of La Grange and Johnny Gaertner and wife, Connie of Knoxville, Tennessee; two daughters, Marjorie Hackemack and husband, Ralph, and Teresa Divin and husband, James, all of La Grange; eight grandchildren, John Seidel and wife Julie and Michael Hackemack and wife Lane of Fort Worth, Marcus Gaertner and wife Chastity of Giddings and Jeremy Gaertner and wife Milisa of La Grange, Joey Divin of Farmers Branch, Jerrod Gaertner and wife Elisabeth of Knoxville, TN, Haley Kinlaw and husband Grey of Wilmington, NC and Christine DePasqual and husband Ryan of New Braunfels; 14 great-grandchildren; special friend James Stolle of La Grange; nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers, one sister, six sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
